I was busy for a while to write my travelogue on Dharmastala & Kukke. Inspired by our Current CM and Ex-CM's news about taking Oath in Dharmastala, I decided to write this blog before my memory becomes old.
Unlike my other trips, this one was little different for the fact that we had a newly wed couple with us - Srikanth & Swapna.
Here is how we planned. Last minute plan with the confusion whether to take Shiradi Ghat or Charmadi Ghat, we ended up going through Shiradi Ghat. It was a good decision in the end.
This trip was one of my best planned trip.
Our date of journey : 17th Feb 2011 till 19th Feb 2011
Route : Bangalore - Nelamangala (Take left towards Mangalore road after reaching nelamangala & look for a deviation board and make sure to exit from fly over) - Kunigal - Hassan - Sakaleshpur - Continue towards Mangalore and on the right side you see a deviation towards dharmastala (which is 20KMS). Take that road. The total distance will be around 305KMS.
We started around 6 PM on Friday from office (Domlur) and reached Nelamangala road by 7 PM. As usual, we were greeted with terrible traffic but once you hop onto the nelamangala fly over, it is an amazing experience.
Make sure you take a deviation to the left (there is a sign board about Mangalore road) else you will end up hitting another toll gate which leads to Tumkur.
We hit Mangalore road and headed towards kunigal by 6:50 PM. The roads are quite decently but still under repair / construction. So, while driving in the evening make sure you don't drive too fast as there are always surprises waiting for you.

ReplyDeleteThank you :). You have a nice blog too. Will read through it sometime shortly.
ReplyDeleteIn dharmasthala, will they give rooms to single person in temple lodges? Please let me know.
ReplyDeleteFor bachelors or single person, they won't. Its only for family.
ReplyDeleteCan I be more or less assured that I'll get some accomodation on reaching Dharmasthala ?
ReplyDeleteI'm a bit concerned as I'm travelling with 2 kids , and if I don't find anything on reaching Dharmasthala it will be a problem, especially since its a Sunday.
Shankar, I am travelling this weekend, request you to share your experience as you were the latest to go to this place.
DeleteI am assuming you are starting from bangalore on saturday night. It won't crowded at this time. You will get rooms without any problem. Besides, its mid term exam time for majority of kids. Just be careful on the highway incase you are driving. Happy journey.

ReplyDeleteHi i am not sure about that. Please call up temple office and check with them.
Deletea Good one to follow. I am planning to visit kukke and Dharmasthala shortly
ReplyDeleteHi All, 20/9/2013
ReplyDeleteI visited Kukke and Dharmastala last week ie...Sep 14-Sep16 2013.
To add....if you are travelling with kids to both kukke and Dharmastala do carry flasks to get hot milk/horlicks etc....for night because none on the hotels have restaurants attached.
I went to kukke first and then to Dharmastala. The tour was real good.
But the roads on the ghat section around 40 kms towards Kukke.....Bangalore- Mangalore...literally did not have tar on it. The adviced speed limit is 10 kmph. Horrible condition.
If you can forget this 40 kms strech...else the roads are fine.
Regards
Gopu

Good information for any tourist.........
ReplyDeleteGreat List.....!! Thanks for Sharing ........Really a travel guide
ReplyDeleteHi...nice info..it is really helpful..one quick question here...I am planning to travel this weekend..even I have a Santro. What mileage did you get and how many litres of fuel you think will be required? Also I am planning day time driving. How safe is it in the ghat section? You suggestions will be of much value.
ReplyDeleteRegards,
Bipin
Hi Bipin,
ReplyDeleteI was caught up with work and could not reply you in time. Coming back to your question, i assume you are travelling from bangalore. Distance one side would be around 300 KMS. On highway santro will definitely give 15 KMPL if driven below 100 KMPH. It is safe to drive in ghat unless you are very new to driving. I would suggest you try Charmadi ghat. It is very scenic. Take help of Google map to take that route. Happy journey.
Useful n nice info. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteVery useful information . But what about road condition , no where explained
ReplyDeleteIt would be great if you can give those details also
We recently visited Dharmastala. Road condition is very good except for very few pot holes in the ghat. Take Shiradi ghat. We took bangalore - hassan - sakelshpur and Dharmastala.
DeleteWell. Good story to start with and neatly done blog :)
ReplyDeleteGood One ....
ReplyDeleteIs there any weekend tour packages, to visit these places?
ReplyDeleteI am not aware. But normally people hire a cab to visit these places
